Cornelia Wallner is Senior Lecturer for Journalism and Qualitative Methods at the Department of Communication at the University of Vienna and is part of the Journalism Studies Center.
From 2010 to 2024, she was a Postdoc at the Department of Media and Communication at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich at the chairs of Prof. Thomas Hanitzsch and Prof. Wolfram Peiser. Before that, she held a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Zeppelin University, Friedrichshafen, Germany, under Prof. Nico Stehr, Ph.D. FRSC (2009-2011). Cornelia earned her PhD from the University of Vienna in 2007 and worked as a Praedoc at the Department of Communication at the chair of Prof. Hannes Haas (2005-2009).
She has acquired and conducted several third-party funded projects (e.g., DFG, EU), including highly interdisciplinary projects with computer linguists and biologists, conducted research in Southeast Asia in collaboration with local project partners, and was a member of the DFG network 'Norms and Values in Communication Science'.
Cornelia is engaged in the working group 'Postdoc' of the German Communication Association (DGPuK)
Since July 2025, she has been serving as Executive Director of the Austrian Society of Communication (ÖGK).
Her research focuses on Media Systems, Journalism, and the Public Sphere, emphasizing cross-national comparative perspectives.
