Since April 2022, Daniel Nölleke is an assistant professor for “Sports Journalism and Public Relations” at the Institute of Communication and Media Research at the German Sport University Cologne. Before starting in Cologne, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Journalism Studies Center at the University of Vienna.

He received the degree of doctor by the University of Münster in 2013 for his dissertation thesis on “Experts in Journalism”. Daniel’s main areas of expertise include sports communication, science communication, mediatization, and journalism studies.

His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Communication Theory, Digital Journalism, Journalism Studies, Journalism Practice, Journalism, and Communication & Sport.
From 2018 to 2022, Daniel was the chair of the Journalism Studies Section of the German Communication Association. Since 2019 he is acting chair of the ECREA Temporary Working Group “Communication and Sport”. He is also one of the editors of Medien Journal and member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Sport Communication.
